Following the resignation of Hosni Mubarak, LI President Hans van Baalen MEP praised the liberal democratic initiatives of LI members El Ghad and the Democratic Front Party. “Liberal International encourages all liberals and democrats who desire an Egypt that holds democracy and the rule of law as paramount values to especially support Dr. Osama Harb (leader of LI Full member the Democratic Front Party) and Ayman Nour (leader of LI Observer El-Ghad) and all others who are dedicated to a free, fair and democratic Egypt.”

Commenting on challenges ahead, Ayman Nour says: “Currently no democratic parties are involved in talks with the Military leaders... All democratic parties must be involved in this process”. “They've singled out a few young people to talk to, they're from the people's movement, but there are a lot of others that need to be included,” says Osama Harb. In Toronto, LI VP Senator Art Eggleton highlighted the importance of supporting liberal activists:  “If nothing else the situation in Egypt demonstrates that people want liberal change. They want democracy, human rights, equality and social justice…”
